Early Life and Education
WurlD was born on January 2, 1987, in Lagos, Nigeria. He developed an early love for music and began his creative journey there before moving to Atlanta, Georgia, in the United States, to pursue his high school education and later attend university.
He studied Computer Science at Georgia State University. It was during his time in college that he began to seriously hone his songwriting skills and develop his unique musical style, drawing inspiration from artists like Sade, Seal, and Kenna.
Music Career
WurlD's career initially took off as a songwriter, where he penned tracks for several notable international artists. His big break came when he co-wrote the 2012 hit "Blow My Mind" for B.o.B featuring Trinidad James. He also wrote for artists like Akon and Timbaland.
He stepped into the spotlight as a recording artist himself with the release of his debut EP, "Evolution," in 2013. The project featured the popular song "Alive" and introduced his signature electro-fusion sound to the world.
After establishing himself in the U.S., WurlD reconnected with his Nigerian roots, leading to a series of impactful collaborations that solidified his place in the Afrobeats landscape. His 2016 track "Show You Off" with producer Shizzi and Walshy Fire of Major Lazer became a massive hit in Nigeria and the diaspora.
He gained further critical acclaim with his collaborative EP with renowned producer Sarz, titled "I Love Girls With Trobul" (2019). The project was a commercial and critical success, praised for its cohesive sound and lyrical depth. It featured the standout tracks "MAD" and "TROBUL."
He has since released several other well-received projects, including the EPs "AfroSoul" (2020) and "Don't Get Used To This" (2024), and his debut studio album, "My WorlD With U" (2022).
