MohBad was born on June 8, 1996, in Lagos, Nigeria. He developed his musical talent alongside his childhood friend, Rexxie, who would go on to become a renowned music producer. Before gaining mainstream fame, MohBad was active in the music scene, doing song covers and freestyle raps which he shared on social media.
His career took a major leap forward in December 2019 when he was signed by Naira Marley to his record label, Marlian Music, alongside artists like Zinoleesky and C Blvck. Under Marlian Music, MohBad released several hit songs that solidified his place in the industry. His breakthrough came with the song "KPK (Ko Por Ke)," a collaboration with Rexxie, which became a national anthem and one of the biggest street-pop songs of 2020. He released his debut EP, Light, in late 2020, which featured collaborations with Davido, Naira Marley, and Lil Kesh.
In 2022, MohBad's career was marked by significant controversy. He publicly announced his departure from Marlian Music, alleging physical assault and the withholding of his royalties by the label's management. In a series of social media posts and interviews, he claimed he was assaulted for wanting to change his manager, who was a brother to the label's founder, Naira Marley. The label and Naira Marley denied these allegations, stating that MohBad was often intoxicated and prone to making irrational claims.
Following his exit from Marlian Music, MohBad established his own record label, Imolenization, in November 2022. Under his new label, he released tracks like "Weekend" and "Ask About Me," which continued to showcase his talent and lyrical prowess. In June 2023, he released his second EP, Blessed, which featured the hit song "Peace." The EP was seen as a reflection of his journey and his newfound freedom as an independent artist.
MohBad had a son named Liam, who was born in April 2023.
MohBad passed away on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27. His sudden death was met with widespread shock and grief across Nigeria and the global music community. The circumstances surrounding his death led to significant public outcry and demands for a thorough investigation, with many fans pointing to the repeated allegations of bullying and harassment he had made prior to his passing. The case remains a subject of ongoing investigation by the Nigerian police.
