Early Life and Background

JeriQ was born on May 6, 1999, in Nkpor, Anambra State, but he grew up in Enugu, Nigeria. He developed a passion for music at a young age, drawing inspiration from the streets and the sounds around him. He began his educational journey at College of the Immaculate Conception (C.I.C) in Enugu for his secondary education and later attended the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), where he studied Accountancy.

Career Beginnings

JeriQ started his music career by performing at various local events and competitions in Enugu, where he built a loyal following. He gained significant attention with his viral freestyles, which he shared on social media, showcasing his raw lyrical talent and storytelling ability.

His official entry into the music industry was marked by his 2020 debut extended play (EP), "Hood Boy Dreams." The project was a raw, unfiltered look into his life, ambitions, and the struggles of a young person trying to make it out of the hood. The EP resonated deeply with the youth in Eastern Nigeria and established him as a powerful new voice in street-hop music.

Rise to Prominence and Collaborations

JeriQ's career soared to new heights with his collaborative work. In 2021, he teamed up with fellow indigenous rapper Dremo to release the joint EP "East N West." This project was significant as it bridged the gap between the music scenes of Eastern and Western Nigeria.

His most impactful collaboration came in 2022 when he released the album "Billion Dollar Dream." The project featured a host of prominent artists, including Flavour, PsychoYP, and a notable appearance from the legendary Igbo rapper Phyno on the track "Ayego." His ability to secure a feature with Phyno, a pioneer of Igbo rap, was seen as a major co-sign and a passing of the torch.

He has since released other successful projects, including the deluxe version of his album and the 2023 EP "Evil Twin," a collaboration with PsychoYP.

Musical Style and Artistry

JeriQ is known for his gritty, realistic, and often aggressive lyrical style. He refers to his sound as "street-trap," a fusion of hip-hop and trap music delivered with a distinct Igbo flavor. His lyrics often explore themes of hustle, ambition, street life, and the pursuit of wealth, making him a relatable figure for many young listeners. He has become a cultural icon in Eastern Nigeria, representing the voice and aspirations of the streets.
